Discoverer Pathway (Semi-formal Curriculum)

Our semi-formal curriculum pathway has been designed to support pupils to develop functional social communication, cognitive and academic abilities, and greater independence skills. We refer to this pathway as being ‘semi-formal’ as it is characterised by subject-specific lessons and themed
play provision, with therapeutic strategies and approaches embedded into teaching.

Curriculum design is about ensuring that essential knowledge is taught at the right time, in the right way to ensure that pupils learn and remember more. Different subjects require different model of design depending on the type and quantity of knowledge needed. Where possible and appropriate the curriculum is designed around over-arching topic themes which lend themselves to an exceptionally high quality of teaching and learning opportunities most pertinent to individual needs and abilities and how pupils learn best.
